The Importance of Silence
Leaders need to learn to be comfortable with silence. Silence allows leaders and teams to listen and reflect. Leaders who speak too much rarely get the best from their teams. Neil Jurd OBE explains how you can make use of silence in your leadership.

In a world where noise often dominates, leaders who recognise the power of silence and actively listen have a distinct advantage.
By fostering a culture of trust, embracing diverse perspectives, making informed decisions, empowering others, and embracing personal growth, leaders can unlock the true potential of teams and their organisation.
In this video, Neil Jurd OBE discusses how “Great Energy can come from the stillness of Silence”.
Leaders will often talk much more than they listen and see silence as a void that they are paid to fill. Team meetings can also become competitive as members try to fill any silence with their opinions and views.
As a Leader, allowing silence takes self-control as it unusual; however, it creates thinking time which is a better environment for creating solutions. Noise is a distraction as thoughts will be distracted by listening to the Speaker.
Many Leaders think that they have to speak a lot offering their opinions and direction but many of the best leaders say very little. They offer clear direction and allow their team time to create solutions without the distraction of noise.
How Long should the silence be? As long as the Leader can bear and then a little longer!
