In the 2nd of 3 short blogs, Leader-Connect define another Leadership style.
Servant leadership is an approach to leadership exemplified in the motto of the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst ‘Serve to Lead’. This approach to leadership demands that the leader understands that leadership is done in service to a higher purpose and in service of the people they lead. It is the antithesis of egotistical leadership.

In a June 2025 talk at Sandhurst to leaders from the Institute of Directors, Neil Jurd OBE described servant leadership as a mindset where the leader asks ‘what more can I give?’ rather than ‘what more can I have?’
A servant leader will be very driven by purpose, and this will be a purpose with a positive outcome much broader than personal gain. They will also work hard to look after the people they lead, creating a supportive culture where individual needs such as pay and security are met, so allowing team members to focus on working to achieve the organisation or team’s purpose.
