Craig Lawrence

Craig Lawrence CBE was commissioned into Britain’s Gurkhas in 1983 and served with distinction in the British Army, ultimately retiring as a Major General in 2016. He then became Course Director at the Royal College of Defence Studies (RCDS) – the UK Government’s premier institution for strategic leadership education – where he led the transformation of its year-long postgraduate course into a world-class programme, recognised as a key career accelerator for senior executives from across the public, private and third sectors. During this time, he also authored Getting Strategy Right (Enough), the UK Government’s practical guide to strategy-making and strategic leadership.
A Fellow of both the Institute of Consulting and the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), and the author of six books, Craig left RCDS in 2020 to establish his own strategy consultancy. Since then, he has worked with a wide range of organisations across multiple sectors – helping leaders and teams develop effective strategies and the high-level leadership capabilities needed to achieve their most ambitious goals.
In 2023, Craig published The Quick Guide to Effective Strategy, a best-selling, practical “how-to” manual written for anyone who needs to develop strategy – from business leaders and charity trustees to school governors, entrepreneurs, civil servants, and elected officials.
